Load Balancing Using Dynamic Ant Colony System Based Fault Tolerance in Grid Computing

    Get PDF
Load balancing is often disregarded when implementing fault tolerance capability in grid computing. Effective load balancing ensures that a fair amount of load is assigned to each resource, based on its fitness rather than assigning a majority of tasks to the most fitting resources. Proper load balancing in a fault tolerance system would also reduce the bottleneck at the most fit resources and increase utilization of other resources. This paper presents a fault tolerance algorithm based on ant colony system, that considers load balancing based on resource fitness with resubmission and checkpoint technique, to improve fault tolerance capability in grid computing. Experimental results indicated that the proposed fault tolerance algorithm has better execution time, throughput, makespan, latency, load balancing and success rate

Uplink Channel Allocation Scheme and QoS Management Mechanism for Cognitive Cellular-Femtocell Networks

Cognitive radio and femtocell are promising technologies which can satisfy the requirements of future mobile communications in terms of dynamic spectrum sharing and high user density areas. Providing quality-of-service (QoS) guaranteed realtime services is challenging issue of future cognitive cellular-femtocell mobile networks. In this paper, we introduce a user’s QoS management mechanism used to protect SINR of macro users from QoS violation caused by femtocell users. We design a novel uplink channel allocation scheme (denoted as “flexible scheme”) for real-time connections. The scheme uses the information of interference level and channel occupancy collected at  cognitive femtocell access points and their covering macro base station (MBS) and apply relevant selection criteria to select an appropriate channel which causes the minimums interference to macro users of the covering MBS. Performance results prove that comparing with femtocell-access-point (FAP)-based and MBS-based uplink channel allocation schemes, the novel “flexible scheme” can provide lower unsuccessful probability of new connection requests

Task resubmission and checkpoint are among several popular techniques used in providing fault tolerance in grid computing. However, due to the lack of side-by-side comparison, it is not certain of the best technique that would not degrade the system performance in addition to providing fault tolerance capability. This study proposed Dynamic ACS-based Fault Tolerance in grid computing using resubmission to new resource, checkpoint technique and utilization of resource execution history with the aim to reduce execution and task processing time and to increase the success rate in grid environment. The proposed algorithm is compared with other relevant algorithms to measure the performance in terms of execution time, success rate and average processing time. The results suggest that the proposed algorithm with improved task resubmission, checkpoint and extended pheromone update formula gives better performance in managing execution failure as well as resource selection during task assignment or resubmission

Handover Algorithm based VLP using Mobility Prediction Database for Vehicular Network

This paper proposes an improved handover algorithm method for vehicle location prediction (VLP-HA) using mobility prediction database. The main advantage of this method is the mobility prediction database is based on real traffic data traces. Furthermore, the proposed method has the ability to reduce handover decision time and solve resource allocation problem. The algorithm is simple and can be computed very rapidly; thus, its implementation for a high-speed vehicle is possible. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method, QualNet simulation is carried out under different velocity scenarios. Its performance is compared with conventional handover method. The superiority of the proposed method over conventional handover method in deciding the best handover location and choosing candidate access points is highlighted by simulation. It was found that VLP-HA has clearly reduced handover delay by 45% compared to handover without VLP, give high accuracy, hence low complexity algorithm

The purpose of this study is to examine the factors determining sport participation of company employees. Three main elements of the socialization process : (1) personal attributes ; (2) significant others ; (3) socialization situations, were considered in the study. The study sample was consisted of 596 male employees in an Osaka-based steel manufacturing company. Via using sport participation patterns and life stages, they were classified into four groups : "continuity group", "withdrawal group", "withdrawal-participation group", "non-participation group". Socialization process of each groups were compared and examined. The findings of the study are as follows. The continuity group have much experience of sporting activities during their school days. They are taking part mainly in sport in the community setting. The withdrawal group used to participate in sports at the workplace with their coleagues. The withdrawal-participation group is taking part in sport mainly due to the advices from the families and/or medical doctors. The non-participation group did not have enough experience of participating in sport during their school days

The purpose of this paper is to examine sports market via applying conjoint analysis to commercial sports club services. A simulation model was used to predict fluctuations in sports club market share. Data for this study were collected from an urban commercial sports club located in Osaka. A sample of 198 club members was studied through computer interactive interviewing. Six service attributes and 18 levels were considered in the research design. Service profiles that were combinations of attributes and levels were presented to respondents by means of paired comparisons. The overall ranked data were analyzed using Jonhson\u27s nonmetric tradeoff algorithm. Conjoint analysis allows the researcher to determine consumer\u27s part-worth utilities for each service attribute under study. Conjoint choice simulator requires part-worth utility information to predict which set of competing attribute profiles individuals are likely to choose. The first choice model was used as the choice simulator in this study. Findings from the simulation were as follows : 1) Extension of the market share was caused by improvements in conditions such as \u27distance\u27, \u27monthly fee\u27, and \u27augumented facilities\u27. 2) Reduction in market share was caused by a decline in \u27instractor quality\u27, \u27distance\u27, \u27membership initiation fee\u27, and \u27monthly fee\u27 conditions. 3) A sports club without any distinctive service attributes was not chosen by consumers. These results that management should characterize the sports club as having specific service attributes

The purpose of this study is to examine consumer preferences for services of commercial sport clubs. This study developed a consumer behavior (preference) model which is intended to explain the choice decision making process. Data for this study were collected in an urban commercial sport club located in Osaka. A sample of 198 club members was studied through computer interactive interviewing. Fourteen service attributes were considered in evaluating the sport club services. These preference items were separately analyzed by groups of club members segmented on the basis of gender and marital status, and withdrawal experiences of other sport clubs. The findings of this study are as follows : Service attributes such as distance and cleanliness were more influential factors in consumer preferences for the commercial sport clubs. Female club members take many service attributes into consideration when they choose among alternative sport clubs. Club members who have withdrawal experiences from other sport clubs were less concerned with business hours than other club members. These results are useful for the management of commercial sport clubs
